Cage Ladder Landing Platform Requirements
A landing platform is required wherever a fixed ladder with a cage or well exceeds 24 ft. OSHA sets the interval at every 50 ft of climbing height, and EN ISO 14122-4 sets equivalent rules for EU projects. We supply the ladder, cage and landing platforms as one engineered kit with the compliance file.

The 50 ft Rule
Cage Ladder 50 ft Platform Interval – OSHA Rule
Where a fixed ladder uses a cage or well, OSHA requires a landing platform at intervals no greater than 50 ft of climbing height. Our platform kits are sized and bracketed to bolt into an existing ladder, or supplied as one integrated assembly.
- Every 50 ft of climbing height
Landing platforms at OSHA 1910.28 intervals
- One engineered kit
Platform, brackets, cage hoops and rungs matched
- Compliance file included
DoC, MTC and structural calcs ship with the order
Ladder + Platform as One Kit
Cage Ladder + Platform as One Kit
No matching headaches between suppliers — the caged ladder and every landing platform arrive as one fabricated kit, engineered to fit together and comply together.
Matched Components
Cage hoops, rungs and platform brackets cut to the same drawing set.
Bolt-On or Built-In
Add platforms to an existing caged ladder, or supply the full assembly new.
One Compliance File
DoC, MTC and structural calcs cover the ladder and platforms together.

Platform Clauses to Real Consequences
The Landing Platform Citation Map
Platforms are where ladders stop being geometry and start being rescue infrastructure — and where inspectors slow down, because a platform mistake is visible from the ground. Each row walks one obligation to its site consequence and to the hardware or document that satisfies it.
| The Clause | Real Effect on Site | What We Deliver |
|---|---|---|
| EN ISO 14122-4:2016 — single flight capped at 6 m | every 6 m of climb on a European tower demands a break, so platform count is set by physics, not budget | flight layout engineered to your height with platforms at every break, one drawing set |
| OSHA caged climb above 24 ft — landing platforms at intervals | long American climbs read non-compliant the moment intervals stretch past the allowed distance | platform positions fixed at quote stage, intervals marked on the GA drawing |
| Singapore WSH (WAH) 2013 — climbs over 9 m need adjacent landing within 9 m | the tightest interval rule in the region; Southeast Asia projects inherit it by default | platform spacing verified against the 9 m rule before the drawing is released |
| Cage top extension 42 in above the landing | a platform without grab-through exit geometry is a platform with a fall at its edge | hoop stack and extension fabricated to mate with the platform frame, trial-assembled |
| Guardrail and self-closing gate at the step-off | the open gate is the most-cited platform defect there is | self-closing gate matched to hoop geometry, hinge set tested before dispatch |
| Platform as structural node for the next flight | brackets that carry the next flight off a wobbly deck transfer load nowhere good | welded platform frames bolted to brackets cut in the same kit — load path documented in the calcs |
Name the governing standard and the climb height — the citation map collapses into one GA drawing with every platform placed, inside your 24-hour quote.
Walk-Through, Side-Step or None?
Platform Configuration — Situation to Supply
Two towers of the same height can need different platform architectures, because the structure around the climb decides what fits. Pick the situation row honestly — the supply column is what belongs on the order.
| Climb Situation | The Rule That Decides | Our Supply |
|---|---|---|
| Straight tower, climb under 6 m, EN jurisdiction | no flight break triggered — a platform adds cost without obligation | single-flight caged ladder, no platform, DoC notes the flight length |
| Tall silo, multi-flight climb | 6 m flight cap forces breaks; each break is a platform node | multi-flight package — ladders, platforms, gates from one drawing set |
| Clad or congested face — no deck to land on | the platform must be self-supporting off the ladder line itself | walk-through platform carrying the next flight, brackets in the same kit |
| Existing ladder, platforms missing | the climb exceeds the flight cap but the ladder is sound | retrofit platform frames measured to the existing stringers |
| Frequent two-way traffic | passing points beat politeness — side-step platforms let climbers pass | side-step platforms at the flight breaks with opposing gates |
| Singapore-governed site over 9 m | adjacent landing required within 9 m of climb | platform spacing set out to the 9 m rule from the first drawing revision |
Platform positions are the one decision that reorders every downstream part number — fix them first, and the rest of the package prices itself inside 24 hours.
Feature — Advantage — Your Outcome
Platform Features That Hold Up at Handover
Five platform engineering lines and the handover outcome each one buys.
| Feature | Advantage | Your Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| One drawing set for ladder and platforms | bracket positions, hoop stacks and gates cut to mate | no angle-grinder adaptations on install day |
| Self-closing gates matched to hoop geometry | the most-cited platform defect engineered out | gate pass-through never appears on the inspection sheet |
| Platforms as engineered load nodes | next-flight loads carried through documented calcs | structural questions answered with one PDF |
| Interval rules verified at quote stage | 6 m, 50 ft or 9 m spacing checked before release | platform count is right the first revision |
| Trial-assembled multi-flight packages | every mating face proven at the factory | tower erection runs to sequence, not to improvisation |

Deep Dive — Platform Triggers and Sizes
When a Platform Is Triggered, and What It Must Measure
Landing platforms are the pause points that make a tall ladder survivable — for both climbers and inspectors. The trigger logic differs by standard family. Under OSHA, a caged ladder climbing above 24 ft needs a landing platform at intervals no greater than 50 ft. Under EN ISO 14122-4:2016, no single flight may exceed 6 m, so platforms arrive far more often on tall European towers — a rest platform at every flight break, i.e. at least every 6 m of climb.
Platforms also do structural work that buyers often miss. Each platform breaks the fall exposure into shorter segments, gives a rescue point at height, and anchors the next flight of cage. That is why we fabricate ladder and platforms from one drawing set: bracket positions, hoop stacks and gate leaves are cut to mate, not to be adapted on site with an angle grinder.
The trigger and sizing table below is the reference we work from at quote stage.
| Trigger or Dimension | OSHA (US) | EN ISO 14122-4:2016 (EU) | Our Standard Build |
|---|---|---|---|
| First platform trigger | Caged ladder above 24 ft | Climb above 3 m starts cage logic; flights capped at 6 m | Platform at first 6 m flight break |
| Interval between platforms | Every 50 ft of climbing height | Single flight never over 6 m | Flights set out to project height |
| Platform structural role | Rest point and ladder offset option | Rest platform between flights, cage restarts above | Welded frame, bolted to brackets from the same kit |
| Edge protection | Guardrail and gate at stepping-off level | Guardrail per 14122-3 platform rules | Self-closing gate matched to hoop geometry |
| Material and finish | Per spec, HDG typical outdoors | Per spec, HDG typical outdoors | Q235B HDG 85–100 μm, SS304 option |
| Budget guide | Per project | Per project | USD 150–400 per platform; ladder from USD 95/m HDG |
Planning tip for EPC teams: fix platform positions before you order the ladder, not after. Moving a platform changes the flight lengths, the hoop stack count and the drawing approval cycle — a 10-minute decision that can save a 15–25 day re-fabrication. Send us the climb height and the standard that governs the site, and the platform layout comes back with the quote inside 24 hours, itemized on the spec sheet.
