Safety Cage Requirements
Safety Cage Requirements Explained
Cage start, clearances and hoop spacing are the three requirements that define a compliant fixed ladder safety cage.
- Cage start height
Hoops begin at 2.2 m above the floor or landing
- Clearances
19.7 in (500 mm) cage clearance from rung to hoop
- Hoop spacing
1500 mm between hoops, 30×3 mm straps

Behind the Numbers
How Every Spec Value Gets Verified
A number on a spec sheet only matters if something checked it — which is why each dimension on this page maps to a specific gate in our five-stage quality control. Material strength traces to the EN 10204 3.1 certificate of the exact heat lot; weld integrity to ISO 5817 Level C inspection before galvanizing; coating to the ISO 1461 requirement of 85–100 μm measured on the finished part. The last two gates are physical: every ladder is trial-assembled in the plant, and every shipment is photographed before it leaves the dock.
All five records are kept for 10 years, so an inspection question in 2034 can still be answered against the paper from 2026.
| QC Stage | What Is Verified | Method / Standard | Covers These Specs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 — Incoming material | Steel chemistry and strength | EN 10204 3.1 MTC per heat lot | Q235B / SS304 grade claims |
| 2 — Weld inspection | Rung and strap weld integrity | ISO 5817 Level C | 1.5 kN rung rating |
| 3 — Galvanizing | Coating thickness on finished part | ISO 1461, 85–100 μm | Corrosion life |
| 4 — Trial assembly | Fit of cage, gate and platform | Every ladder assembled in plant | 500 mm width, Φ700 mm bore |
| 5 — Pre-shipment photo | Condition and completeness | Photographed at loading | Order accuracy |
The One-Glance Spec Card
Every Number on a Dengtai Cage Ladder, With the Price Line It Feeds
Dimensions and money belong on one card — inspectors read the left column, finance reads the right, and both are looking at the same product.
| Spec Item | Factory Value | Price Connection |
|---|---|---|
| Rung | Φ20 mm at 280 mm spacing, 1.5 kN | standard geometry — no custom engineering uplift |
| Clear width | 500 mm | standard form factor across the range |
| Cage | Φ700 mm from 2.2 m, hoops 40×5 @≤1500, straps 30×3 | hoops and straps quoted per piece as spares |
| Finish | HDG 85–100 μm per ISO 1461 | HDG $95/m — SS304 1.8×, SS316 2.5× |
| Single piece | up to 14 m | longer climbs splice — container-legal freight $280–550 |
| Reference unit | 6 m HDG caged ladder | $600–900 ex-works |
| Options | gates, exits, platforms | $60–180, $90–250, $150–400 |
| Volume | MOQ 1, tiers at 10 and 50+ | rate steps down on consolidated orders |
Using the card in a meeting
- Standard geometry is the budget anchor — every value in column two is our normal build; departures from it are where quotes move
- The multipliers are knowable in advance — 1.8× and 2.5× price the stainless question before the enquiry goes out
- Accessories are the swing lines — the ladder is arithmetic; gates, exits and platforms are the decisions that shape the order
Spec Decisions, Settled by Site Facts
Material by Air, Platform by Height, Gate by Traffic — the Three Calls on Every Spec Sheet
Three decisions turn a generic spec into your spec. Each one below pairs the site fact with the spec line it settles.
| Site Fact | Settles | Spec Line |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary industrial or outdoor air | material | HDG Q235B at $95/m — the default that wins most analyses |
| Chemical splash or washdown chemistry | material | SS304 at 1.8× — zinc cannot survive the cleaning regime |
| Coastal salt or marine mist | material | SS316 at 2.5× — chloride air pits everything cheaper |
| Climb stretching toward system length | platforms | rest platform modules at $150–400, planned at drawing stage per the 6 m logic |
| Daily multi-user entry at the cage | gate | self-closing gate $60–180 — passive closure beats procedural discipline |
| Restricted or trespass-prone site | gate | lockable variant — access control on the same compliant leaf |
Spec-sheet mistakes that survive to site
- Stainless as a default checkbox — multipliers applied site-wide spend 2.5× where $95/m would have served for decades
- Platforms as an optional extra nobody ordered — the drawing passes, the climb tires, the retrofit costs a survey
- Galvanized written without ISO 1461 — the word covers paint and spray zinc too; the standard number is the spec
Spec Completeness, Buyer Confidence
Five Things a Fully-Specified Factory Build Hands the Specifier
A complete spec is not paperwork pride — it is how the ladder that arrives matches the one you approved.
| Feature | Advantage | Your Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Every dimension stated, none implied | rung to hoop, the drawing is the product | what arrives matches what you approved, clause by clause |
| QC measured at five gates | MTC → welds → coating → trial assembly → photos | each spec line has evidence behind it, retained 10 years |
| Multipliers published up front | 1.8× SS304, 2.5× SS316, $95/m HDG | material decisions price out in the first meeting |
| Accessory prices on the same card | $60–400 across gates, exits, platforms | the full system budgets before the enquiry leaves |
| 24 h quote against your spec | engineer-checked geometry, itemized lines | approval moves fast because nothing is ambiguous |
