How to Choose the Right Cage Ladder

Floor to landing, not wall height. Over 6 m (EN ISO 14122-4) or every 50 ft (OSHA 1910.23) the ladder needs rest platforms and section offsets - we design these in automatically.
2. Match the environment
Outdoor/industrial = HDG Q235B steel. Washdown or food plant = SS304. Marine, chemical or pool water = SS316. Corrosive + non-conductive needs = FRP.
3. Pick the cage style
Full hoops Φ700 mm from 2.2 m up is the compliant default. Half-cage or cage-to-3 m builds save cost on low climbs; bolt-on cages retrofit existing ladders.

1. Measure the climb yourself — floor to landing edge
Not the wall height, not the drawing label. We build to your measurement in 100 mm increments, and a mis-stated climb is the number one cause of on-site modification. Send a photo of the tape at the landing; our engineer verifies it against the drawing before fabrication.
2. Name the standard on the PO — in writing
OSHA 1910.23 and 1910.28 for US sites (24 ft caged-ladder limit; new fixed ladders over 24 ft need ladder safety systems since November 2018), EN ISO 14122-4 for Europe (3 m cage threshold), BS 4211 for the UK, AS 1657:2018 for Australia. A PO that says "standard cage ladder" buys you whatever the factory had in mind.
3. Confirm anchors and base condition
Wall material, anchor type and floor condition decide bracket spacing and base plate detail. State them in the RFQ — guessing here turns into drilling redos at height.
4. Interrogate what the price includes
Cage (Φ700 hoops 40×5 at 1500 mm), hot-dip galvanizing to ISO 1461 at 85-100 μm, export crating, DoC, EN 10204 3.1 MTC and structural calcs. If any of these is missing from the quote, you have not compared prices — you have compared incomplete ladders.
5. Approve the drawing before the deposit
We confirm every drawing in writing before PO, and changes at drawing stage cost nothing. This is your risk reversal — a supplier who starts cutting steel off a verbal description is asking you to underwrite their guesswork.
