Seven Steps Between the Crate and Compliance

The working sequence our manuals and video walk through — the same order a two-person crew follows on site.

Step one, receive and verify: check the crate against the packing list and confirm every module, bracket and anchor bag is present. Step two, confirm site readiness: a sound wall, safe working area and the bracket landing zones marked at 1800 mm centres from the spacing diagram. Step three, drill and set the M12 anchors, keeping holes clean and to the diameter on the anchor plan.

Step four, hang the ladder modules on the 8 mm standoff brackets and bolt the climbing line 200 mm clear of the wall. Step five, fix the cage — hoops at their drawn positions with straps fastened so the 700 mm enclosure is continuous from 2.2 m upward on EN builds (OSHA builds use the 7 ft 3 in – 8 ft bottom band). Step six, add platform, gate or handrail extensions if the configuration includes them, following the same numbered parts. Step seven, torque and verify: every bolt checked against the torque table, then the compliance checklist signed off against OSHA 1910.23, OSHA 1910.28 and EN ISO 14122-4.

Because the ladder was pre-assembled and trial-fitted at the factory, nothing on this list requires cutting, welding or judgement calls — if a step does not match what the crew sees, the guide says to stop and message our engineers.

The Hour Before the Crate Opens

Site-Readiness Check — Green Lights and Red Flags

Installation day goes as well as the hour before it. The five conditions that let a two-person crew finish in half a shift — and the four that stop work entirely.

Five green lights before the crew starts

  • Anchor positions marked — transferred from the M12 plan to the wall, checked against the bracket layout at 1,800 mm centres
  • Substrate verified — concrete grade or steel backing plate confirmed where each bolt lands
  • Torque wrench available — calibrated, with the drawing's torque table printed and on site
  • Staging room cleared — modules laid out along the wall in hang order, cage hoops within reach
  • Camera ready — install photos taken per stage for the acceptance file

Four red flags that stop work

  • Unmarked services in the wall — no scan or as-built drawing before drilling
  • Cage envelope blocked — a pipe or conduit crossing the Φ700 mm circle mid-climb
  • Finished floor not in place — climb height measured to a surface that does not exist yet
  • Weather window ignored — module hanging at 6 m+ planned into wind or rain

Any red flag on the right is a one-hour fix on paper and a one-day fix at height. Send a photo to sales@dtsteelladder.com and our engineers will call it — free.

Designed to Be Installed, Not Just Built

What Ships in the Crate That Saves Your Crew Hours

Installation cost is decided at the design stage. Five things we build into every order so day one on site is assembly, not engineering.

Cage Ladder Installation Guide FAQ

What languages is the cage ladder installation guide in?
EN, ES and FR manuals plus a video guide — included with every order.
Does the guide include a video?
Yes — a step-by-step video guide covers bolt-on assembly with hand tools.
Is the compliance checklist free?
Yes — the OSHA & EN ISO 14122-4 compliance checklist is free with every quote.
How do I get the guide?
Submit the form and we'll send the install guide within 24 hours.
Does the guide cover anchor bolt torque and spacing?
Yes — the drawing pack includes anchor spacing diagrams and the torque values for the M12 anchor plan, so the crew can set and verify every connection.
Is there a checklist to confirm the wall is ready before we start?
Yes — the guide opens with a site-readiness section covering wall condition, bracket landing zones at 1800 mm centres and the 200 mm standoff line.
Can a general contractor crew follow the guide without welding or rigging certs?
Yes — installation is bolt-on with hand tools only, so no welding, hot work permits or special rigging tickets are needed on site.
Is the guide generic or specific to our ladder?
Each order ships with drawings for your exact configuration — heights, bracket positions and cage parts match your ladder, not a generic template.
