Selection Guide
Which Gate at Which Opening?
A caged climb can present several different openings, and each deserves the right gate model rather than one size forced everywhere. Side entries into the cage, landing edges on intermediate platforms, and final exits at the top each carry different traffic and risk. The quick reference below maps every common opening to the recommended factory-direct gate, with the ex-works price band you should budget before requesting a formal quote.
All gates in the table are bolt-on, hot-dip galvanized to ISO 1461 at 85–100 μm, and fit Φ700 mm cages with standard side rails — SS304 is available at roughly 1.8x the HDG price for corrosive sites.
| Opening | Recommended Gate | Why | Price Band |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cage side entry | Self-closing swing gate | Closes behind every user without discipline | $60–180 ex-works |
| Intermediate platform edge | Self-closing gate at the opening | Guards the fall edge at landings above 6 m | $60–180 ex-works |
| Top exit / step-over | Walk-through exit group | Handrails guide the step off the climb | $90–250 ex-works |
| Restricted or vandal-prone site | Lockable gate, keyed alike option | Blocks unauthorized entry at the base | Quoted with lock option |
Gate Part File — Codes, Specs, Service Triggers
Every Cage Gate We Ship, Filed Like a Spare Part Should Be
Gates are wearing parts bolted to a structure that outlasts them. Order them by code, inspect them on a cycle, and replace them on evidence — the table below is the file your stores ledger wants.
| Ordering Code | Part | Spec | Ex-Works Band |
|---|---|---|---|
| DT-G01-SC | Self-closing swing gate | Φ700 cage entry, spring return, HDG 85–100 μm | $60–180 |
| DT-G02-LK | Lockable gate | G01 with cylinder lock, keyed-alike option | upper $60–180 band plus lock option |
| DT-G03-WT | Walk-through exit group | Top exit handrails and knee rail, bolt-on | $90–250 |
| DT-G04-SS | SS304 variant of any gate | Same geometry, alloy build for corrosive air | ≈ 1.8× the HDG price |
Service triggers — replace the part, not the argument
- Spring return check, every planned inspection — release the leaf from fully open; if it no longer closes and latches on its own, the return mechanism has reached end of service
- Hinge wear — visible droop or lateral play at the hinge line means the leaf no longer aligns with the hoop opening; order the hinge set with the next gate
- Coating breach — HDG to ISO 1461 holds for years, but a gate dropped during maintenance or scarred by lifting gear should be re-dipped or replaced before rust establishes
- Lock function — on DT-G02-LK, any key that turns without resistance is a security finding, not a convenience; swap the cylinder on discovery
- After any fall or vehicle strike — a loaded gate is condemned by inspection, not by eye; photograph it, quote the code, replace the unit
Will It Fit Your Existing Ladder?
Four Measurements That Confirm Gate Fit Before You Order
Most gate returns are not quality problems — they are measurement problems. Take the four dimensions below with a tape and a phone camera, send them with your enquiry, and the fit is confirmed in the same 24-hour quote.
| Measure This | How | What It Decides |
|---|---|---|
| Cage inner diameter | across the hoop, inside face to inside face, at entry height | our standard gates are built for Φ700 mm cages; other diameters are made to measure |
| Hooping at the entry | section size of the hoop bar at the opening | clamp and bolt pattern — standard is 40×5 mm hoop flat |
| Entry height and orientation | floor to center of the opening, plus which side the entry faces | left- or right-hand leaf swing and gate height |
| Rail to wall clearance | from the cage rail to the nearest obstruction beside the swing arc | whether the leaf can open through its full arc without striking plant |
Common compatibility mistakes
- Ordering by cage diameter alone — two Φ700 cages with different hoop sections need different clamp kits; send the hoop bar size with the order
- Assuming the hand of the swing — a gate that opens onto a walkway instead of into the cage fails inspection; state which side the entry faces
- Mixing site-welded brackets with factory gates — bolt-on gates are trial-fitted at the factory; welding them on site voids the geometry check

Five Things a Factory Gate Does for the Climb It Guards
A gate is the smallest line on the ladder quote and the one inspectors touch first — here is what each factory feature returns at the opening.
| Feature | Advantage | Your Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Self-closing spring return | closes behind every user, no discipline needed | the fall edge at the entry is never left open |
| Bolt-on clamp mounting | installs with hand tools, no hot work | retrofit onto a standing cage in under an hour |
| Codes for the stores ledger | DT-G01-SC and family, priced $60–180 | reorders are a part number, not a re-survey |
| HDG 85–100 μm per ISO 1461 | kettle zinc on leaf, frame and hardware | the gate ages at the ladder's pace, not faster |
| Fit confirmed in the 24 h quote | four measurements checked before dispatch | no returns, no site drilling, no argument at install |
