Where Ladders Live on a Conveyor System
A conveyor line only fails in a handful of places — the drive, the transfer chutes, the tripper, the take-up. Maintenance access planning follows that map, and the ladder spec follows the structure each point sits on. An enclosed ground gallery keeps weather off the steel, while an elevated gantry over the yard takes everything the climate can throw. One material and one layout cannot serve both without wasting money somewhere.

Ladders Along a Conveyor Line, Tower by Tower
Miguel maintains a 2 km overland conveyor with eleven transfer towers. Every head pulley, every gearbox, every scraper needs a legal climb, and the belts only stop twice a year. This is how the access program rolled out between stops.
Miguel's team logs each tower: deck elevations, service points (head pulley, drive, gravity take-up, scraper), existing ladder condition, and the tower steel the new runs can bolt to. Dust exposure at each transfer gets noted — the head end of a conveyor is a dust zone like any grain leg.
We normalize the geometry across the line — rung Φ20 at 280 mm, width 500 mm, cage Φ700 from 2.2 m — then tune each tower for deck heights and exit directions. One drawing set, one calculation package, and Miguel's planner sees every climb on one schedule.
Runs arrive trial-fitted in single pieces. During each planned stop, crews anchor brackets to tower steel, stand the runs and hang the gates — no welding next to moving belting, no cutting near the dust collectors. What does not fit a stop rolls to the next one.
Each tower closes with the dimension check, weld records to ISO 5817 C, galvanized thickness where HDG runs serve outdoors, and the MTC 3.1 plus DoC filed. The ten-year QC photo archive backs any retrospective audit along the whole line.
